Dear Parents, Carers and Children,

Building Work

The children have been watching with very keen interest to the progress that our builders are making. They are digging out the trenches for the footing for the new walls. They have had to dig deeper nearer the cellar. Watching the builders work has made me really appreciate the hard work that the builders in 1877 must have put in to build the school.

Car Park

The temporary car park and access into school appears to be working and no one has come to see me about any problems. If you do encounter any please do let me know as we all need to work together while the building work takes place.

Harvest

Many thanks for the donations of food items to the Barrow Food bank. A group of Year 6 children accompanied Mrs Dean to the food bank where the food was weighed and checked in. Altogether Burlington School and the Church donated enough food for 248 meals. Thank you everyone.

Money donated in church during the Harvest Supper and through our cake sales on the playground have seen us raise a whopping £118.20 towards the farm Africa project. Again, thank you.

Furness Young Voices

Our children in year 2/3 have been asked to join Furness schools in an evening of song on Tuesday 8th November at Forum 28. Ticket money can now be sent into school. If you requested extra tickets at the time please pay for these. As we can not guarantee extra tickets will be available parents will be reimbursed for tickets not bought.

Parent’s Evening

It was great to see so many families attending our parent’s evening. If you did not get chance to catch up with your child’s class teacher please feel free to make an appointment to see them.

Friends of Burlington

All families should have received an invitation to join the Friends 100 Club. This came out via a letter form from the Friends through school. Please fill in a form if you wish to have a number. If you require further information please email friends@burlington.cumbria.sch.uk

Tickets for the Halloween Disco are selling at £3 per ticket. Please send money into school in a named envelope. The friends are looking for volunteers to help with hot dogs, games, music etc. Again please approach a member of the Friends (Bryony Karasek, Claire Steele, Emma Rawlinson, Katie Jones, Vic Code, Lindsay Rafter, Angela Hadwin to name a few!) with offers of help, alternatively please check out the Friends of Burlington Facebook page.

Club Fees

Please can I request that all club fees are paid promptly and up front.

Fees for next half term are:

Violin - £17.50

Guitar - £14

Keyboard - £31.50

Tom’s Multisports - £18 (no club on 16th December)

Christmas Cards

While I do not like to mention Christmas in October next week in school we will be designing our Christmas cards. This is an annual event where we turn your child’s artwork into a Christmas card to send. We will be designing cards in school which your child will then bring home. You may choose to design your own at home instead of the one done in school. Alternatively you may wish to design a thank you card. This year parents are encouraged to order their cards online and also pay for them online. This cuts down on the money handling in school. Your child’s design will need to be returned to school in order for us to send it to the printers. Pictures need to be returned to school by Tuesday 1st November.
