Message from Mrs Powell, Headteacher

It gives me great pleasure to introduce myself as Headteacher of Burlington Church of England Primary and Nursery School. I am proud of the children, staff, parents and governors whom all work hard to ensure Burlington is a happy and friendly place to work and thrive.

We are a happy and caring small rural school situated on the edge of the beautiful Lake District with stunning views across the Duddon Estuary, Langdales and up to Kirkby Moor. We have just under 70 pupils on role and children may start school once they have turned three years old. We serve the community of Kirkby in Furness but also reach out to the villages of Soutergate, Wallend and Grizebeck to name a few. Taxis bring some of our children to school each morning due to the rural nature of our community.

Parents, pupils, Governors and staff pride themselves in developing the whole child. In order to achieve this, we place a great emphasis on ensuring that our children develop a confidence, enjoyment and commitment to learning while being nurtured in a safe, friendly and fun environment.

We place a great deal of value on the children enjoying education. Trips, visitors, the outdoors, exciting lessons and activities are common place. Our curriculum is designed to ensure we capture the awe and wonder of the world around us, starting with visits to our local woods once a week for our youngest pupils in Class 1.

I know our children leave Burlington School with confidence in themselves and with many fond memories. There is nothing more important than our children andfamilies. We put them first, work together and ensure they achieve their best. That is what we intend to do every day.

I am proud of our children, school and of our community.

Burlington truly is ‘like one big family’.

We understand that deciding the right school for your child is an extremely important and often difficult decision.  We believe the best way to understand what Burlington CE Primary and Nursery School would  provide for you and your child is to come and visit our school.  We would be delighted to show you around.  Please arrange a visit to see what we have to offer.

Please call in or ring to make an appointment for a visit on 01229 889210 where you can speak to Mrs Thompson, the School’s Business Manager. Alternatively, the office email is admin@burlington.cumbria.sch.uk
